Hayle Samba Community Band was formed in 2003 with the idea of creating a sound that the whole of Hayle and surrounding areas could enjoy and benefit from.
We meet every Wednesday at 7.30pm-9.30pm at The Royal Standard Inn, Hayle (opposite the harbour and Phelp's Bakery on the bend) in their private meeting room upstairs, which is located from the carpark outside. Everyone is welcome and instruments are provided.There is a small tuition fee of £2.50p payable each session and an opportunity of becoming a member (£2 p.a.)
We are very fortunate to have two brilliant teachers (maestres) Claire Simpson and Jude Kirk. They provide us with fun in their teachings and the whole of Hayle Samba Community Band benefit enormously from their enthusiasm. Everyone, from beginner to advanced, realises very soon, that samba can be very addictive! We have played in many processions and carnivals and private functions and continue to do so.
Samba is one of the best forms of Afro-Brazilian music. The pure rhythms produced ensure that no-one can resist tapping their feet or moving their body to it ! We dress up for all occasions in turquoise and gold. These two colours represent the sea and golden sands of Hayle.
We are very lucky that we have a lot of support from Hayle Town Council, Hayle Lions Club and, being a smaller group, we are very fortunate to have the support from Penzamba, also Ian and Angie at The Royal Standard Inn.
This site is continually being updated and modified and we hope to put pictures, videos and music for you to look at and enjoy.
